Why Danville wine columns struggle to hold temperature

Wine storage has less margin than a fridge

A wine unit holds a far narrower and warmer band than a refrigerator — typically the mid-50s rather than the high-30s — which sounds easier but is actually less forgiving. The cooling system is sized tightly for that gentle pull-down, so it has little headroom when the kitchen around it spikes into the 80s on a July afternoon and Mount Diablo is holding the fog out of the valley.

That tight margin is why a wine column is often the first appliance in a Danville kitchen to show heat strain, even when the main refrigerator still seems fine.

The usual culprits when it drifts warm

A loaded condenser is first on the list. Danville's dusty summer air packs the coil, and a wine unit's smaller system loses its grip faster than a big fridge when that happens. A cleaning frequently restores the setpoint on its own.

Next is the door seal and the glass.
